CF/UWVFC’s 20-year free tax mission reaches a new milestone: a partnership with AARP Foundation Tax-Aide that opens free filing to every Volusia-Flagler resident, regardless of age or income

For more than two decades, the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia‑Flagler Counties (CF/UWVFC) has been the region’s trusted home for free, IRS‑certified tax preparation. What began as a small Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) effort has grown into a cornerstone service that has helped tens of thousands of residents file accurate returns, claim essential credits, and keep more of their income.

And now, that legacy is growing even stronger.

A Legacy of Service — and a New Chapter Ahead

Since its launch, CF/UWVFC’s VITA program has completed over 44,000 tax returns and returned more than $50 million to local households. These dollars help families pay bills, build savings, and strengthen their financial footing. During the 2026 tax season alone, more than 100 volunteers dedicated 5,000 hours to preparing 1,800 returns — generating more than $2.1 million in refunds for neighbors across Volusia and Flagler Counties.

This work has always been about more than tax forms. It’s about access, dignity, and financial stability.

Beginning with the 2026 tax year, CF/UWVFC is expanding that mission through a new partnership with the AARP Foundation Tax‑Aide Program, the nation’s largest free tax assistance network.

What’s Changing — and Why It Matters

The transition to AARP Foundation Tax‑Aide brings two major benefits for local residents:

  1. No income or age restrictions
For the first time, every resident of Volusia and Flagler Counties will be eligible for free tax preparation — whether they’re a retiree, a young worker filing for the first time, or a family navigating complex credits.
  2. More locations and more support
AARP’s national infrastructure allows CF/UWVFC to expand service sites and strengthen volunteer training. Volunteers will receive Chromebooks, mileage reimbursement, and enhanced tax law education — ensuring high‑quality, accurate service for every client.

“This partnership is the natural next step in our long‑standing commitment to helping our neighbors keep more of what they earn,” said Courtney Edgcomb, President and CEO of CF/UWVFC. “AARP Foundation Tax‑Aide allows us to reach more people, strengthen volunteer support, and build on everything VITA has accomplished.”
